Hurricane Ike created havoc along the coast but a week later we held our car show with some of the most beautiful vintage cars in Texas.
We would like to thanks all the participants and sponsors for helping make our 3rd Annual Fall Car Show such a success.
We hope to see you again September 2009.
Below is an email sent to LARC members by Shirley Bullard following the show and includes comments from some of the show participants.
If you didn't get the opportunity to attend our Car Show this past Sunday, I'm here to tell you that you missed a great day. We were apprehensive because of the postponement & the inability to notify those who planned to attend. But amazingly enough, word did get out & the show was a spectacular success. Pat & I manned the "day of show fund raising" table & had opportunity to talk to a whole lot of people. Without fail, comments were all compliments for the show, the prizes, the "Boys & Girls Club Representatives", the announcements, the music, the park, the weather, everything you can imagine. We may have had fewer participants because of the rescheduling but the outcome was a well planned, well organized and well executed show! I'm including below just a couple of the emails received from people attending:
#1You don't waste any time! We're still talking about the great time we had at the show yesterday - the Best of Show was really over the top. The pictures really look good, but we especially like the third from the top. My wife took one of the T-Shirts work with her this morning. People were in awe of your club's tradition of using last year's Best of Show and the quality of the picture. It's a memory that will be framed on our wall before the end of the week! Please thank the club members for us and let us know how we can help with all of the work that goes on to prepare for the show next year or anytime. We'd be glad to! Your friends, Wally and Peggy
#2 I was a participant (#72) at your car show Sunday and I just wanted to thank you all for putting on such a nice show. The weather was great, wasn't it !! A couple of items: 1) Having the Boys and Girls Club participating was a great idea. Although I had brought my own water; I was asked several times thru the day if I wanted some water.....those Boys kept right at it all day! And the Girls drawing pictures of the cars and trucks was a nice way to involve the Girls.....they seemed to really get into it. 2) That was quite a contribution of the Dart Heads by the Machine Shop....donating over $1000 worth of goods for the benefit of the Boys & Girls Club and a successful car show was just outstanding. #3 I wanted to get word to your club as to how much I enjoyed last Sunday’s show. It was very well organized and your club members all made us feel welcome. I see your members at other shows and they always have a smile and greet me like an old friend. That is the thing I like most about this hobby, the people. Things are pretty tough these days and last week was an especially tough week for me but the warmth and genuine friendliness of your club members helped push all that aside for not only that one day, but still makes me smile today. Thanks for a good day. God Bless, Robert
#4 I'm sorry we did not make it. We got back into town about 2 in the morning on Sunday from stephenville. I had no energy to go anywhere. I heard you had a great car show though. My in-laws had a great time. I hoped you earned a lot of money for the kiddos.
